MAROF Farm Tourism – About Us

Our family farm – Marof Farm Tourism is located near the pleasant village of Bistrica ob Sotli, close to the confluence of the rivers Bistrica and Sotla.

Marof Farm Tourism is surrounded by flat fields and meadows, which on one side quickly transition into the forested slopes of Orlica and on the other into the picturesque landscape of untouched Kozjansko with vineyards. It is no coincidence that the location of the farm was chosen for a castle granary, a barn, and a hayrack during the time of the Kunšperk Counts in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the thick stone walls of the buildings that are still preserved today.

The family tradition has always been viticulture, and previous generations also engaged in mixed farming to a lesser extent. The farm has always been known by its home name ‘Marof’, and we are all known as ‘Marofskes’.

Three generations now live at Marof: grandmother Pepca, son Simon with partner Nika and daughters Kaja, Ana, and Sonja.

In our own vineyards and wine cellar, we cultivate, mature, and bottle top-quality wines with a lot of love and manual labor. The vineyards in two nearby locations encompass seven thousand vines of various varieties, mostly Sauvignon blanc, Muscat, and Blaufrankisch. Enology and wine making are both a passion and a professional occupation for Simon, the farm’s successor, who also has extensive experience in managing a larger wine cellar abroad.

We offer top-quality white and red wines as well as sparkling wines, distinguished by freshness and minerality. Some wines gain nobility through aging in wooden barrique barrels.

Marof Farm Tourism also includes several meadows, forests, and fields where we grow cereals, pumpkin seeds, and produce pumpkin oil. The female part of the family especially enjoys gardening and working with herbs.

Of course, the farm wouldn’t be complete without our animal companions: indispensable dogs Lili and domestic cats, which are a joy to all family members.

Marof Farm Tourism offers four new spacious apartments with beautiful views, wellness with sauna, jacuzzi, and massages.

We aim to offer our guests an authentic connection with the peaceful rural life.

Through the natural and cultural beauties, homemade cuisine, and other experiences in our environment, guests can once again find a connection with themselves, achieve deep relaxation, and perhaps find a new spark in life.

MAROF Farm Tourism – in touch with nature

Responsible attitude towards people, animals, and nature.

From generation to generation, we try to pass on good life values by cultivating intergenerational respect, cooperation, social engagement, and a respectful attitude towards animals.

We aim to reduce the amount of plastic packaging: we use sustainable materials and reusable materials for serving food and drinks.

We separate waste by bins, also separating food waste and trying to compost as much as possible.

We use seasonal, own or regional, and organic products; thus reducing our carbon footprint, energy consumption, influencing job preservation, and the use of our own resources.

In the facilities, we ensure hygienic safety of accommodation and food, ensuring a large proportion of natural light.

Energy-saving heating: use of our own biomass for heating, solar power plants, and heat pumps for sanitary water.
